Lord’s Day, Vol. 1 No. 2
Blessed Inaugural Service
Psalm 133:1, 3
A Song of degrees of David.
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!…3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
The Lord gathered 130 souls in Blessed Hope Bible-Presbyterian Fellowship’s Inaugural Service. Dr. SH Tow’s encouragement for our group was that a choir of 7-8 might be assembled to praise God’s Name. The newly assembled Blessed Hope choir of nine – Victor Wong, Rita, Penny, Rose, Megan, Mrs Siow, Jane Tan, Eunice, Nicholas Wong – with Lois Lek accompanying on the piano, sang the hymn, “Yesterday, Today and Forever” to the glory of Jesus’s Name. They rehearsed at the home of our sister Rita with the careful instruction of Mrs. Siow. Indeed, we experience God’s blessing as we praise His Name.
Elder Paul Tsao, our worship leader, sounded forth the call to worship from Psalm 100:1-5:
Psalm 100:1 A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. 2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
Elder Paul Tsao led us in worship with the opening prayer and the singing of the hymns (1) Blessed Be the Name, (2) Our Savior’s Name and (3) When We See Christ, the Scripture Reading and the Memory Verse taken from Titus 2:13-14.
The sermon “Our Blessed Hope” was based on Titus 2:11-15. The sermon outline
- Begins with the New Birth (v11)
- Invigorates a New Life (v12, 14) –
(a) Power Over Sin (v12)
(b) Strength to Do Good (v14) - Begets a Glorious Future (v13) with the concluding exhortation from verse 15 to give diligence to speak, exhort and rebuke with godly courage and scriptural wisdom. The closing hymn was “What a Gathering!” followed by the closing prayer.
We thank the Lord for bringing William Lee to help us with audio and video recording of our worship service.
Dr. Tow’s gift of the All-Ages Bible Memory Course 1 was distributed after the service to encourage young and old to hide God’s Word in their hearts for spiritual health and strength.
Our ladies team consisting Josephine Lee, Ann Lee, Rita Wong, Goh Kwai Kum and Mrs Law provided refreshment after the service.
Elder Siow Chai Sheng led our welcoming team of greeters Selestier and Lucas Lek who distributed the weekly prepared by Jean Lee. Our ushers Lee Kee Choon and Eliezer Choo were at hand to guide and direct friends and loved ones and guests. Jason Liew and his friend voluntarily helped us to take a group photograph after the service to remember God’s goodness.
A word of encouragement to all in the Lord’s service to press on with the good work: Hebrews 6:10-11For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end.
Rev. Wee Eng Moh and wife Helen, Pastor of Berith BP Church, and Mrs. Kiantoro Lie, wife of Rev. Kiantoro Lie, Pastor of Calvary Batam, were in our midst to rejoice with us. We received notes and prayers from Rev. Dr. SH Tow, Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Khoo, Rev. Dr. Pradbudas Koshy, Rev. Kiantoro Lie, Rev. Tan Kian Sing and Rev. Dennis Kwok. Thank God for gifts received from Calvary Pandan, True Life by the hand of Sister Wendy Teng, Berith BP Church and Calvary Batam. We appreciate all of your encouragement in the Lord. We thank God also for the offering of two flower bouquets specially prepared by Megan Yap.
There were those of our loved ones and friends who came for the first time. It is our prayer that they will come again to hear God’s Word and that they may be saved.
It is with grateful hearts that we praise our great God for bringing us together to be witnesses for Him at the “Dairy Farm” area. May the Lord by His unfailing grace sustain and keep us in this new gospel outpost. All glory to His Name.
Yours lovingly
Pr Lek Aik Wee
