Lord’s Day, Vol. 2 No. 38
(1) Church Logo
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ is the theme from which Blessed Hope Bible-Presbyterian Church got her name. It is based on Titus 2:13 “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ”.
Our church logo depicts our Lord’s imminent return. Believers are to be “looking for that blessed hope.” “Looking for” involves directing one’s gaze (life’s focus) upon a certain direction with a view of receiving a blessing. It is a sure hope, an assured expectation, of a future reality. It is an event that is going to happen – the consummation of God’s blessing upon His people. Jesus Christ is the only hope for the world. Everything else has failed. This hope begins with the new birth, when men repent of their sins and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour for the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men (Titus 2:11). The spiritual birth invigorates a new life – power over sins and strength to do good (Titus 2:12). Finally, it begets a glorious future in God’s everlasting kingdom (Titus 2:14). This indeed is the believers’ blessed hope.
The logo signifies our Lord’s imminent return:
- The “window” depicts the church’s watchfulness and preparedness “looking for that blessed hope” (Titus 2:13a) – the Second Coming of Jesus Christ – which is the consummation of God’s blessing upon His people.
- The “golden” coloured foreground of the window and the word “hope” denotes “the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13b) – a heavenly picture of splendour and holiness (Titus 2:12).
- The “cross” symbolizes Jesus Christ who is “the great God and our Saviour” (Titus 2:13b) – the only hope for all mankind – which this church urgently proclaims.
- The colour “blue” portrays the church striving to live in purity of life and being God’s faithful witness (Titus 2:12).
- The cursive “Blessed” represents comfort and strength holding to God’s promises.
(2) Family Day 2014
Thank God for a blessed Family Day on 13 September. In answer to fervent prayer, God granted us good weather and strong wind for kite flying and group games at the West Coast Park, and safety for all attending the event.
We assembled for dinner at the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club. Thank God for blessed fellowship around the tables.
After dinner, we proceeded to the Nautica II function room on the second floor for message. Our opening hymn was taken from the Revival Hymns and Choruses (RHC) #472 “Happy the Home When God is There”.
The message on Family Life was entitled “Headship in the Home” taken from Ephesians 5:23-33, 6:4. The focus was upon the responsible role of a husband and father in the Christian home. The greatest problem in society today is in the family and we believe, more specifically, it is due to the failure in the office of the husband and the father in the home. May all husbands and fathers be reminded of their scripture mandated responsibility of servant leadership, sacrificial love and steadfast loyalty. The closing hymn was “A Christian Home” (RHC#471). After 15 minutes of tea break, we watched an 8-minute video of the day’s events collated by our photographers. The video would be further refined and uploaded in our church’s website in due time. We thank God for all who took time for the gathering.
Yours lovingly in Christ,
Pr. Lek Aik Wee
