Romans 3:21-22a, Jesus Saves, Jesus Saves!
Romans 3:21-22a But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe…
The Apostle Paul showed evidence how man is plagued by the fatal disease called sin, why he is under condemnation and ready for God’s judgement. This is the first theme of this epistle from Romans 1:18 to 3:20. All seemed hopeless for sinful man. He cannot stand before a holy God. There seemed only the bleak prospect of awaiting a judgement to come.
The Apostle Paul testified that this is not so! There is hope for sinful man. There is a God-given cure. There is a way sinful man can be reconciled to a holy God. There is a way that man can amek right with God. This cure is described as “the righteousness of God without the law.” This cure does not require man to do the impossible task of keeping the commandments of God perfectly.
This cure is “by faith of Jesus Christ”. It is a cure that comes when the heart of man is willing to yield himself to receive the prescription for this cure. All who believe in the work done by Jesus Christ when He was upon earth shall be saved. In a nutshell, this cure is given to all and effectual for all who put their faith in Jesus Christ. While Jesus was upon earth, He kept the law of God perfectly on our behalf and was crucified on the cross shedding His blood to wash away our sins and finally died to pay the penalty for our sins. By faith in what Jesus Christ had done, man find salvation. This is the righteousness that comes to man without having him to do the impossible task of keeping the law.
This is God’s only way of salvation. This is the free offer of the gospel to sinful men. The Apostle Paul appropriated it for himself when he understood this truth in his personal encounter with Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus. It was indeed a happy day when Jesus washed his sins away. He never looked back from there. What a great salvation he received. He devoted his entire life to share this good news that other sinners too, may be saved! What a meaningful way to live. May we learn from Apostle Paul’s example. Amen.
