Romans 4:22-25, Is Anything Too Hard for the Lord?
Romans 4:22-25 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. 23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
God told Abraham that he will have a son in his old age when Sarah has passed the age of child-bearing, human speaking. Abraham has passed the state in life where he can father a son – Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. (Gen. 18:11). But God gave the promise of a child to Abraham and Sarah. How should Abraham handle such a promise God gave? But to believe God!
As Jesus said, “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” (Matt.19:26; Mark 10:27; Luke 18:27) Sarah laughed at the thought. It reflected her unbelief (Gen. 18:13, 15). God asked Abraham why did Sarah laugh? God answered to quell all doubt, “Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.” (Gen. 18:14).
Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness. The gospel likewise is to be understood by faith.
Romans 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
May we be not ashamed of the gospel but believe and proclaim it to a lost world. A day will come when we shall see Christ face to face and tell the story saved by grace. What a glorious day it will be!
