Romans 5:9, Greatness of God’s Love
Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
We are saved by Christ’s blood, shed to wash away our sins (v9). We are saved by Christ’s resurrection, giving us eternal life (v10). We are saved by God’s grace, Christ’s great sacrifice on our behalf (v15). We are saved by the gift of righteousness, freely available to us through Christ (v17).
How can we ever repay Christ for the price paid to save us? We can never do so! This is the message of God’s love enacted by Christ. The Apostle Paul described the greatness of this love by Christ’s humility – the willingness to yield and do the Father’s will.
Philippians 2:5-11 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
This was Christ’s mindset of service – being ready to serve, counting the cost, willing to pay the price, in obedience to the Father’s will.
Ready to suffer grief or pain,
Ready to stand the test;
Ready to stay at home and send
Others if He sees best.
Ready to go, ready to stay
Ready my place to fill
Ready for service lowly or great,
Ready to do His will.
May God give us this mindset to serve His people and spread His love! Amen.
