Romans 7:24-25, A Sound Mind
Romans 7:24-25 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
With a sound mind, the Christian serve the law of God. Such a mind is led by the influence of the Holy Spirit undergirded by God’s Word. Such a mind is disciplined, taught, trained to do good, serve God. The Apostle Paul took time to cultivate such a godly mind! He testified spending time with God in imbibing the truth of God into his very heart after his conversion.
Galatians 1:15-17 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace, 16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: 17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.
Arabia was the Apostle Paul’s seminary in the wilderness. He re-oriented his mind so that it be perfectly joined together in the mind with Christ (1 Cor. 1:10). Such a man served not the law of sin but the law of God. He was serious and determined by the grace of God to follow Christ. Our Lord described the fruitfulness of such a life in John 15:7-8 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
The spiritual fruit is God’s peace – Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Indeed, it is thankworthy that God endowed us with a sound mind to serve Him. May we take care of our mind! Amen.
