Romans 8:33-34, Standing Justified!
Romans 8:33-34 (KJV) 33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. 34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
The believer stands justified to receive the past, present and eternal heavenly blessings because of what Jesus Christ had done for him. Christ died, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven and seated in a position of authority to plead the believer’s cause before the Father! Jesus Christ will also be the final Judge. Hence, the believer is in a secure position having entrusted his soul to Jesus Christ. Jesus is both Chief Advocate and Judge. The courtroom metaphor best describes what Jesus has done and will do for the believer.
All the believer’s sins past, present and future have been paid by Jesus Christ on the cross. He is the Mediator between God and man. As God, He represents God and as a Man, He represents men. Therefore, He can pronounce the acquittal and nullify any charge hurled against the believer!
This role of Jesus as our faithful Intercessor in well described in Hebrews 7:24-28 for our edification, “But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. 26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; 27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. 28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.”
When we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour by simple faith in the gospel, we may not be fully acquainted with the marvellous salvation that we possess in Christ. Now, it becomes clear, how we are standing justified! Amen.
