Romans 9:27-29, Salvation Is of the Lord
Romans 9:27-29 (KJV) 27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved: 28 For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth. 29 And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.
A review of Israel’s history has seen that there were many in Israel judged by God for their sins. When Israel came out of Egypt, that generation that was above 20 years of age perished. When Israel entered the Promised Land, there arose a new generation that arose after the death of Joshua that knew not God. The United Kingdom was divided because of the sins of idolatry, spiritual adultery. God judged them with the destruction of the Northern Kingdom in 722 B.C. and the Southern Kingdom of Judah in 586.B.C. God sent many prophets to the north and to the south to jolt the people to come back to God. Alas, many were defiant.
The prophet Isaiah whom the Apostle Paul quotes, speaks of the judgment of God upon Judah by the Babylonians. In the fullness of time after a period of God’s patient warning, destruction came swiftly. Truly, the Apostle Paul concurs with the prophet Isaiah, if the Lord of hosts (Sabaoth) has not preserved Himself a remnant, the rebellion would have been almost total as in the case of Sodom and Gomorrha during Abraham’s time. Fire and brimstones fell from heaven to consume the city.
As the Apostle Paul reviews the spiritual state of Israel during his time, he saw a great rejection of their Christ. He was gloriously saved. He was like the rest before God arrested him with the truth that Jesus is the living and true God on the road to Damascus. In Him only, men find salvation. He was commissioned by Christ to bring the gospel to the Gentile world. There were conversions, those won to the faith when God opened their spiritual eyes.
Today, we see the gospel is truly preached throughout the world. With the advancement of modern technology, travel has been revolutionalized. Unreached regions now become accessible for the spread of the gospel. Yet, the world seemed to be oblivion of their Saviour. Many still reject God in Jesus Christ. There is coming a Great Tribulation that the world has never experienced. This world will be destroyed. Comparing scripture with scripture, we see this judgement recorded by the Apostle Peter in
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
The church will be taken to glory before the Great Tribulation will begin.
Dear reader, are you ready to meet your God? May God help us to prepare to prepare also our loved ones and friends for this momentous consummation in human history. Amen.
