Romans 15:4, Patience and Comfort of Scriptures
Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
God’s Word provides the believer with encouragement and comfort. The biblical characters like Joseph and David, Absalom and Ahithophel helps us to see godly men and also the ungodly. It provides for us admonition and it provides for us wisdom to a godly walk.
The result of reading and searching of Scriptures is that the believer is strengthened by hope. Hope that comes from the promises of God that He will take care of His children. Whether in sickness or in health, the Word of God provides the needful solace and comfort.
As the psalmist testifies, in Psalm 78:4-7 “We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. 5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: 6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: 7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:“
May God help His people to impart this faith to our children that they too may set their hope in God. Amen,.
