Lord’s Day, Vol. 4 No. 36

Who Is Jesus Christ?

The Bible declares that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Son of Man. The name Jesus, announced by the angel, signifies – “The Lord is Salvation” or “Saviour”. The word “Christ” (The Anointed One) is essentially an official title borne by Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of God.

The Son of God took man’s nature and was born of the virgin Mary. Hence, there are two natures, the divine and human, joined in one Person, who is Christ Jesus. He is the mediator between God and men.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

By His suffering, crucifixion, and death, Jesus who is sinless, became a sacrifice for all the sins of men.

After His death, Jesus rose again on the third day and ascended into heaven and is now at the right hand of God the Father. He shall forever reign and have dominion over all creatures.

Jesus sanctifies all who believe in Him, by sending the Holy Spirit to instruct them, to give them new life, and to strengthen and defend them from all the power of evil.

Notable but transient leaders of the nations have affected periods of history, but Jesus has impacted all of human history. He has been present in every moment of time.

Every generation from Adam, including our own and our children’s, can look upon this God-ordained One as the greatest because He is the only begotten Son of God and the only one able to give eternal life to the human race.

Jesus said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself(John 7:16-17).

Jesus conquered sin and death. Do you have faith in Him? Will you put your trust in Him today?

God loves you. He invites you to enjoy eternal life with Him in heaven.

In heaven, the Bible tells us, there shall be no more tears, no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.

The only way a man can ever get into heaven and have eternal life is to believe in Jesus. He was nailed on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Only the blood of Jesus Christ can wash away our sins (Hebrews 9:22).

God is holy. He would never allow sin to enter heaven. Through Jesus Christ, we can be saved from the judgment of hell fire and be given eternal life in heaven. Faith in Jesus Christ is the only way God has made for sinful men to be reconciled to God.

The Bible tells us that we have to commit ourselves to follow Jesus before we die. After death, our eternal destiny is sealed, whether heaven or hell.

In hell, the fire is never quenched. It is a place of eternal torment for unrepentant sinners. It is a place of regret. It is a place of punishment for sin.

Jesus told us of a rich man in the Bible who has all the good things of this life but did not know God. When he died, his soul was immediately sent to hell.

There was another man Lazarus, a beggar. He did not have all the good things of this life but he knew God. When Lazarus died, he was immediately taken to heaven.

The rich man could see Lazarus enjoying the blessing of heaven whilst he was being tormented in hell. He requested for Lazarus to bring him a little water to cool his burning tongue.

The Bible tells us that it was not possible. There is a chasm, a separation, a great gulf fixed between heaven and hell so that he that is in heaven cannot cross the divide to hell and vice versa. Death begins that separation (Luke 16:19-31).

Dear friends, if you are not a child of God and have no assurance of salvation and eternal life in heaven, I urge you to repent of your sins and come and put your trust in Jesus Christ today. Receive the forgiveness of sins and the fullness of God’s blessing to live a victorious life over sin and death.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Amen.

Yours lovingly,

Pastor Lek Aik Wee
