1 Corinthians 5:7, Christ Our Passover
1 Corinthians 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
There is forgiveness with God when God’s people are willing to confess and forsake their sin. Christ is the passover lamb that was slain for the remission of sins. His sacrifice on the cross is indeed effectual in taking away the dreadful disease of sin that plague His people.
The psalmist testifies of the unrest in the heart of the sinner who refuses to repent and acknowledge before God his sin. He pronounced blessing of peace and joy when sin is forgiven.
Psalm 32:1-5 A Psalm of David, Maschil. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long.4-5 For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
Remember in Pilgrim’s Progress, how the burden on Christian’s back was lifted off him when he came to the cross? How the paralytic man experienced exuberant joy was able to walk again and experienced the forgiveness of his sins when he came to Jesus by simply faith, believing that Jesus is the Lamb of God that will take away the sins of the world (Mark 2).
Thank God for Christ our Passover. Amen.
