1 Corinthians 5:8, Unleaven Bread of Sincerity and Truth
1 Corinthians 5:8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
The unleaven bread is symbolic of the absence of any inkling of corruption. The old leaven is symbolic of the old life of living in bondage to sin.
The Apostle Paul exposes the underlining problem of sin in the church in Corinth. He is saying to them to remember the finished work of Christ on the cross that delivered them from the bondage of sin. In grateful acknowledgement of their great deliverance, they are to live holy lives. Let their Christian witness be sincere and according to the truth of God’s Word. He renounced any hypocrisy or malice. He urged the Corinthian Christians to be true to their confession.
He described the Christian life as a joyous feast of celebration. This new life in Christ is certainly worth of a life of rejoicing having being freed from the filth of sin. We not only have a clean slate in that all our sins are nullified through Christ but a full slate because the Holy Spirit fills our hearts.
May God bless His people as they live for Him. Amen.
