1 Corinthians 7:1, Singlehood
1 Corinthians 7:1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
The Apostle Paul will now address single hood and marriage in this chapter answering questions from members of the Corinthian church who wrote to him. He speaks of those who remain single and are not married. They are not to be despised for remaining single, for not having any physical relationship with a woman. He says it is good. But it must not be construed as a more desirable spiritual state for a person. And the single man or the single woman should not be pressurised to get married.
William MacDonald analysed, “The apostle does not imply that the unmarried state is holier than marriage, but simply that it is better to be unmarried if one desires to give oneself to the service of the Lord without distraction. This will be explained in later verses.” Being single must not be construed as one being disobedient to God.
May the Lord guide His people to discern His will for their lives. Amen.
