1 Corinthians 7:22, Freed and Being Free
1 Corinthians 7:22 For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant.
When a slave is converted and he becomes a Christian, he may still be a slave to man. But in the eyes of God, he is special. He has been freed from the bondage of sin and given eternal life in Jesus Christ. Such a one is “the Lord’s freeman”. He enjoys the liberty of having the power to overcome sin through the power of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom given in God’s Word.
The liberty he has in Christ is the freedom from the bondage of sin. It does not mean that he is free to live a wanton life of sin regardless of God’s laws rather he is Christ’s servant. He serves not sin but His Lord Jesus Christ by reflecting the glory of Christ in living a holy life. This is the privilege of the born-again believer regardless of his vocation.
May God grant His people a correct perspective of Christian freedom. Amen.
