1 Corinthians 7:32, He That Is Unmarried Careth For the Things that Belong to the Lord

1 Corinthians 7:32 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

“Without carefulness” means “to be free from care or anxiety”, to be torn between two conflicting responsibility. The unmarried Christian, without the commitment of time, the responsibility, in caring for spouse and children, can better devote time to serve the Lord “undistracted”. This is not to say that the married person cannot care for the things of God. Rather, the family’s needs requires the commitment of time and resources that the unmarried person can give better over the married person. This does not mean that the unmarried Christian necessarily would make such a sacrifice toward the service of the Lord.

Whenever there is a decision to be taken for the service of the Lord, the family of the married Christian has to be consulted for their support so that whatever work that is embarked upon finds unimpeded progress with the understanding of the family members whether it is spouse or children. In this sense, the married Christian is not as free to make commitment of service. For example, as compared with the married, the single person is better equipped for long term travel from one place to another. This does not mean the married cannot do so, there are families who travel together to accomplish the work as a family.

Thank God for wise counsel that advances the work of God’s kingdom. Amen.
