1 Corinthians 7:35, Attend Upon the Lord Without Distraction

1 Corinthians 7:35 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.

Celibacy is good. Profitable for those who are called to remain single that they may devote their lives to the service of the Lord without distraction. For such who consecrate their lives in single hood for the Lord’s sake finds life most rewarding. The Apostle Paul is not trying to influence the Corinthian Christians to celibacy. It is a choice that they, individually, have to make. He is simply showing them what each choice entails.

Truly, it is needful for those who are at the crossroads to consider carefully, prayerfully, seeking the mind of God and His peace in such choices in life. Martin Luther was an Augustinian monk in the 16th century who sparked the Protestant Reformation. He consecrated for celibacy. After the Reformation, he married and reared a godly family with children.

May the Lord guide His people to make sanctified choices. Amen.
