1 Corinthians 7:39, A Binding Covenant For Life
1 Corinthians 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth…
Marriage was given during creation even before the fall of man, and thus the family is part of God’s creation. Marriage is instituted by God and marriage is built by God. The strength of the country is the strength of its families. The Holy Bible gives the blue-print for successful marriage and family life.
The marriage covenant is binding and effectual as long as the husband and wife is alive. This is reflected in the sacred oath made by the couple on the day of their marriage.
The Pledge
Wilt thou have this woman to be thy wedded wife, to live together after God’s ordinance in the holy estate of matrimony? Wilt thou love her, comfort her, honour, and keep her in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all other, keep thee only unto her, so long as ye both shall live?
Wilt thou have this man to thy wedded husband, to live together after God’s ordinance in the holy estate of matrimony? Wilt thou obey him, and serve him, love, honour, and keep him in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all other, keep thee only unto him, so long as ye both shall live?
Both the husband and wife takes the pledge of allegiance toward honouring the marriage covenant come what may. This is the will of God for the couple for a life-time of cleaving and caring.
May the Lord bless every Christian marriage for His honour and glory. Amen.
