1 Corinthians 8:9, Let Not This Liberty of Yours Become a Stumblingblock

1 Corinthians 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

The command to “take heed” is from the verb “to see”. It means “to see to it” or “”to perceive spiritually”. It speaks of the believer continually exercising care to not overstep his spiritual boundary that would cause a weaker believer to stumble in the faith.

The Apostle Paul said well to this effect:

13  Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way. Romans 14:13 (KJV)

The weak in the faith are vulnerable being easily discouraged in their faith. They look to other believers and their example. They can either be built up in the faith or be stumbled. Hence, the counsel is that God’s people be careful to watch themselves in their testimony.

Amen.
