1 Corinthians 8:13, Let Love Prevail
1 Corinthians 8:13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
The Apostle Paul was willing to set the example by his abstinence from meat offered to idols. He willingly gives up his right to ensure that he will not stumble the weaker brother in Christ. A commendable spirit that he seeks to inculcate in the hearts of the believers at Corinth so that the brethren look out to strengthen and build up the faith of one another. A noteworthy lesson for the believers.
He puts it well in Romans 14:19-22 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.
Also in 1 Corinthians 10:32-33 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
May God’s love prevail in the hearts of His people that each may seek to strengthen the faith of another to the glory of His Name. Amen.
