1 Corinthians 9:7-9, God’s Law Concerning Just Compensation
1 Corinthians 9:7-9 Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? 8 Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? 9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
The law of just compensation for the worker is not just a human law but it is also God’s law as given Deuteronomy 25:4 Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn. The owner of the oxen who expects the oxen to plow the field must also ensure the oxen is properly fed. The oxen is to be treated such, even so the man.
The man who works in any job is compensated in material renumeration so must the man who does spiritual work. The Lord does reward His servants in His own way but it is the responsibility of God’s people to take care of His servants materially speaking. The Apostle Paul has to make clear the biblical principle of just compensation so that God’s servant can focus well on the work of the ministry, and not be encumbered with looking to meet their own physical needs, for the strengthening of the faith of God’s people.
May the Lord strengthen the hands of His servants through the generous support of His people that His work may prosper from strength to strength. Amen.
