1 Corinthians 10:16-17, Communion of the Body of Christ
1 Corinthians 10:16-17 … The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.
Believers are joined as one body in Christ through faith in the one act on the cross where Jesus’ broken bodily offered as sacrifice for our sake to save us from our sins.
Through that one offer of Christ on the cross, we by faith receive forgiveness of sins. The Lord’s Supper was instituted by our Lord Jesus before He went to the cross to help His people remember His death till He comes again. That they may not forget that there was no greater love than this, no greater sacrifice than this, no greater suffering than this.
On Good Friday, we remember the broken body of Christ and the shedding of His blood to wash away our sins. The prophet Isaiah predicted the sufferings of Christ 700 years before to help the people of God see that Jesus is the Lamb of God that will take away the sins of the world.
Isaiah 53:4-7 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
May God be merciful to save the unsaved and comfort the saved. Amen.
