1 Corinthians 10:21, Drink the Cup of the Lord
1 Corinthians 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.
The Apostle Paul seeks the believer who have confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour to give his wholehearted devotion. Why should the believer who is saved from the filth of his idolatrous past go back to partake the filth of sin in demon-worship? Its unbecoming of the believer and most rebellious of him. It puts him in danger of God’s wrath.
The thought here is that God will not accept such double-heartedness. He is not mocked. Why should the believer seek solace in other gods when he has the Sovereign of the universe taking care of him? Come clean, repent and put away all such hypocrisy.
The believer may not openly worship at the table of demons in the heathen temples. If he does not put God first in his heart and sets his devotion on this world or on self, it is still idolatry in God’s sight! May God’s people be willing to put Him first and expect God’s wholesome care (Matthew 6:33). Amen.
