1 Corinthians 12:10, Interpretation of Tongues

1 Corinthians 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

The tongues refer to known languages. The interpreter is given the ability by the Holy Spirit to understand and rightly convey the meaning of the spoken message. This gift enabled the church to receive God’s message for them even though there was a language barrier between the speaker and the congregation.

God did not leave His people without the needful nourishment of His Word but gave some the ability to be interpreters so that they may be able to understand and be strengthened in the faith. The ability to translate the Bible into a native language of a people has enabled Bibles to be translated and printed and distributed to many people groups to the salvation of souls and the building up of the saints.
