1 Corinthians 13:5, Charity Doth Not Behave Itself Unseemly (2)

1 Corinthians 13:5 Doth not behave itself unseemly …

There is the other example where unruly behaviour during Worship Service that disturbed the sanctity of God’s House in 1 Corinthians 14. The Apostle Paul wrote to admonished the women folk to keep silence in churches (1 Corinthians 14:34) and instructed those who speak in a language that the congregation cannot understand to refrain from speaking for it does not edify the listeners who does not understand what is being said. He concluded with 1 Corinthians 14:40 when he said, “Let all things be done decently and in order.” The members of the Corinthian Church were asked to restrain such unruly behaviours in the House of God.

By way of application, Erastus Wilman, who was president of the Great Northwestern Telegraph Company of Canada before his death in 1904, said this “Nothing is ever lost by courtesy. It is the cheapest of all pleasures; costs nothing but conveys much. It pleases him who gives and him who receives, and thus, like mercy, it is twice blessed.” Let charity begin at home, let us be polite and courteous towards our loved ones, towards our spouses, our siblings and our elderly parents and our children. This is so basic and yet so neglected. We often take our loved ones for granted, neglecting to treat them with basic courtesy. We could be raising our voice and speaking with impatience. This goes also in our workplace in our relationship with our colleagues, showing respect for our seniors and kindness towards our juniors. May the Lord help us to conduct ourselves as it becometh of Christ.

May we take heed too to the Apostle Paul’s admonition to examine the manner we conduct ourselves in public especially in God’s House that it may be fitting of our new life in Christ. Amen.
