1 Corinthians 13:9-10, The Perfect Is Come
1 Corinthians 13:9-10 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
The “perfect” refers here to the completion of the New Testament Scriptures with the writing of the last book, the Revelation by the Apostle John at the island of Patmos at around A.D. 90. It does not refer to Jesus Christ nor His first or second coming.
The last words of encouragement and warning were given to God’s people in Revelation 22:17-19 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Jesus in His lifetime attested to the fulfilment of Old Testament Scriptures concerning Him, the only Messiah of the world, when He declared in Luke 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. The law of Moses refers to the Torah, the first 5 books of the Old Testament and the prophets refer to the historical and books written by the prophets and the psalms refers to the wisdom literature – Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon. These formed the complete Old Testament Scripture.
Thank God for showing us through His Word, the Bible, the way of salvation and the comfort for the saints and the hope of the resurrection. May we meditate on these truths for strength and faith for daily life. Amen.
