Lord’s Day, Vol. 5 No. 33
(1) What Is Honest Money?
Genesis 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
The Bible tells us that the love of money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10). Money itself is not evil. But the love of money is a grievous sin.
The Apostle Paul warns that while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows (1 Timothy 6:10). Beware of the lure of a materialistic life-style that enslaves men and women in every generation.
Have you ever wondered how money should be defined? This is a pertinent question to help us understand the right perspective with regards to money.
The Bible tells us in Genesis 3:19 that in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread. Human labour is that which is ordained by God till the day we return unto the ground. Money could then be defined as a unit measure of what a man earns in his labour.
Money is used to exchange for goods and services that we need. It is not an end in itself but rather a means to sustain us while we are on earth and as resources to do good. This is the biblical concept of honest money.
The Bible’s teaching is that man can enjoy the fruit of his labour which is given to him by God who has enabled him to work (Deut. 8:18). To whom God has given riches and wealth, he is to rejoice in his labour. This is from the hand of God (Eccl. 2:24; Eccl. 3:13; 5:19).
While we rejoice in our labour and give thanks to God for His provision, may we be faithful stewards of what the Lord has endowed upon us.
(2) Webcast and Audio Ministry Update
A letter was received from Jason of Maryland, America in the morning of 7 August. He had tuned into BHBPC’s recorded prayer meeting messages on “Balm for the Weary – A Devotional Study of the Psalms”.
“I have been listening to your series Balm for the Weary. I have found great comfort in this series… I have been under a heavy spiritual attack. I pray for you and have prayed for your flock. This is a picture of what my wife has put on the wall in our kitchen.
Psalm 27:14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”
My reply:
“The Lord keep and strengthen you. He will deliver you from the attack of the evil one. Be comforted. He is still on the throne. He will indeed make a way.”
