1 Corinthians 15:45, The Last Adam
1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
The first Adam became a living being when God breathed life into him as recorded in Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
The last Adam referred here is our Lord Jesus Christ. He became a life-giving spirit. [William MacDonald]
John 5:21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
John 5:26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
Erdman said well, “As the descendants of Adam, we are made like him, living souls inhabiting mortal bodies, and bearing the image of an earthly parent. But as the followers of Christ, we are yet to be clothed with immortal bodies and to bear the image of our heavenly Lord.”
Thank God for the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
