2 Corinthians 1:9, We Should Not Trust In Ourselves

2 Corinthians 1:9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of God“. When a man realises that he cannot order his life and surrenders himself to God through Jesus Christ, he is translated from the kingdom of death to the kingdom of heaven. This was the Apostle Paul’s experience on the road to Damascus when he met the resurrected Christ through a bright light. He was blinded for three days. This Pharisee of Pharisees was struck with the reality of his utter vulnerability.

By faith, he learned not to trust in his own wisdom but the wisdom of God. This was the beginning of God’s blessing upon him. He was thoroughly saved. He took hold of the truth of Christ’s resurrection three days after He died that grants to him by the grace of God eternal life. Although he faced many dangers and death threats in exercising faith and doing the will of God, God was there to guide him till he has finished his God-given course on earth.

He dared not be presumptuous after his conversion but realising he is a sinner saved by the mercy of God seeks to do God’s will. There was an about-turn in his life. Thank God for holy distrust upon self and a wholehearted trust in God. Amen.
