2 Corinthians 2:4, With Many Tears
2 Corinthians 2:4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.
The Apostle Paul agonised and with many tears as he penned the words of this necessary epistle to direct the church in Corinth to the godly path. He speaks of the anguish of his heart as he sought to express his thoughts because the gospel’s progress was at stake – Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
The spiritual progress of the church was at stake and because he loved the brethren and their spiritual well-being, these necessary words of admonition and defence of the gospel ministry were made. The Spirit’s fruit of love and joy that was manifested together with other fruit of the Spirit made it possible for the Apostle Paul to persevere with the ministry. He understood that this work bears God’s approval and there shall be no judgment against the Spirit’s work in his life.
Thank God for His servant who walks in the Spirit and bear the Spirit’s fruit. Amen.
