Lord’s Day, Vol. 6 No. 40

(1) O Happy Day!

We thank the Lord for a blessed Baptismal Service last Lord’s Day. “O Happy Day!” was the message of rejoicing from:

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

The thoughts summarized in our message were:

(1) Coming to the Lord/The Lord is coming to you (v1-16a)

(2) Cleansing from the Lord/The Lord cleansing you (v16b)

(3) Calling on the Lord/The Lord calling you to service and devotion (v16c)

(2) Spending Time in Prayer

Luke 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

Before the creation of the world time did not exist. God lived in eternity in a way that we hardly understand. Time began with Creation, and everything was placed under its power. God has placed all living creatures under a law of slow growth. Think of the length of time it takes for a child to become full grown in body and mind. Learning, wisdom, business, skills – even politics – all depend on patience and perseverance; everything needs time.

It is the same reality principle in our cultivating the life of God in us daily and in witnessing what He wants to teach us and accomplish through our lives. There can be no communion with a holy God, no fellowship between heaven and earth, no power for salvation of others unless much time is set apart for it. Just as it is necessary for a child to grow and learn every day, so the life of grace depends entirely on the time we are willing to give to it day by day.

Was it not so with Jesus? Why must He, who had no sin to confess, sometimes spent all night in prayer? It was because the divine life in Him had to be strengthened in communication with the Father and the Spirit. His experience of a life in which He took time for fellowship with God has enabled Him to share that life with us. [Extracted and edited from The Andrew Murray 365 Day Devotional Bible]

May the Lord bless us with a fruitful prayer life.

Yours lovingly,
