2 Corinthians 3:12-15; Veil Upon Their Heart
2 Corinthians 3:12-15 12Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: 13And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: 14But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. 15But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. (2 Cor. 3:12-15 KJV)
There is a gating point of understanding in the transition from the Old Testament to the New Testament for the Jews just as the greatest gift of Christmas is the gift of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. The merry spirit of Christmas seemed to have sorely missed the true meaning of Christmas as men and women took time to exchange gift to show their affection for one another.
Christmas is the time when God showed forth His love for mankind entering human history, as the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes in the manger in the Jewish town of Bethlehem as the prophet Micah prophesied many hundreds of years earlier.
Micah 5:2 But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
Christmas is the time when men and women come to be reconciled with their Creator God by receiving Jesus Christ into their hearts. The veil of Santa Claus and the season of gifts must give way to the knowledge of Jesus Christ, God’s greatest gift for mankind.
Although the Jews have the Old Testament Scripture to guide them to identify their Messiah, Jesus Christ, they have yet to acknowledge the truth and find salvation. May the Lord be gracious and patient that the blindness may be taken away. Amen.
