2 Corinthians 4:11; Death for Jesus’ Sake
2 Corinthians 4:11 For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
What is the life of Jesus? It is the resurrection life. The life that enables us by the power of God to overcome sin and even death. It is a determined life to say as Esther before she would intrude into the presence of the Persian King without consent to plead for her people on a death sentence, “If I perish, I perish.” She did not regard her life dear unto herself, but was willing to sacrifice it for the well-being of her people, the scattered Israelites in the Persian kingdom. It was the same strength of character as when Judah said to Joseph in Egypt, take me as your servant, I will serve you forever, but let Benjamin go home to my father.
Genesis 44:30-34 “30 Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the lad be not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad’s life; 31 It shall come to pass, when he seeth that the lad is not with us, that he will die: and thy servants shall bring down the fray hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to the grave. 32 For thy servant became surety for the lad unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father forever. 33 Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant abide instead of the lad a bondman to my Lord; and let the lad go up with his brethren. 34 For how shall I go up to my father, and the lad be not with me? lest peradventure I see the evil that shall come on my father.”
Such is the life of Jesus manifested in our mortal flesh, an unconditional, sacrificial love what we are willing to do for others in the light of eternity. May the love of God be shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Ghost for His honour and glory. Amen.
