Lord’s Day, Vol. 7 No. 7

(1) 1st Anniversary of Mandarin Outreach

Thank God for a blessed 1stAnniversary Thanksgiving Service of the Mandarin Outreach Service on 10 February 2019. Our first service was held on 4 February 2018. It was the week immediately following the 4thAnniversary of the church on 28 January 2018.

We thank the Lord for the salvation of 4 persons last year. Mr. Chan Choong Shoung was the first convert. He received the Lord on 29 January 2018 and was taken home to be with the Lord on 1 February 2018. We had vigil services on 1 & 2 February and he was buried in Chua Choa Kang Christian Cemetery on 3 February. Our second convert was Mrs. Chan, the wife of the late Mr. Chan. She received the Lord on 1 February 2018. Mrs. Chan attended the inaugural service of the Mandarin Outreach with her son Hong Kiat on 4 February. Mrs. Chan attended Basic Bible Knowledge class and was baptized on 30 September 2018.

The following was recorded in our 15 July 2018 Newsletter with the heading “Invitation to Share the Gospel” – “Thank God for leading Marcus Lee to evangelize to his unsaved parents. His mother has come to receive the Lord earlier this year and on 14 July 2018,his father responded to the gospel invitation to receive Jesus Christ as His Lord and Saviour. I was invited to visit his home that evening with the hope of sharing the gospel with Marcus’ father in Mandarin. Praise the Lord for his willingness to listen and his willingness to confess Christ.” In the 16 September 2018 Newsletter “A Follow-Up Visitation”, was recorded, “On 8 September 2018, Marcus requested a follow-up visitation to confirm the faith of his father at his home. Marcus’ mother was also present with us. We give thanks to the Lord that Mr Lee Khiak Khiam not only affirmed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, he requested also water baptism.” Mr. Lee Khiak Khiam was baptised on 8 September 2018.

The 4thconvert was Marianne Diampoc, the helper of Mrs. Chan. She was baptised on 30 December 2018. Basic Bible Knowledge Class was conducted during the weekly Bible Study visitations to the home of Mrs. Chan.

This was Marianne’s testimony – “I was raised a Catholic, baptised when I was a baby. My grandmother took me and my sister to the Catholic Church every Sunday when we were young and then once in a while. In my younger years, I drifted away and stopped going to the Catholic Church for many years. I only talked to God when I needed Him. I have praised God for blessings He has given me, but when life gets tough, I would get angry and turn away from Him. I made some terrible decisions as a result of following my way instead of God’s way. I realize that I did not really know Him.

This year I began to slowly to have a relationship with Him. At every step, He has placed people in my life who inspire me, encourage me, and model for me. Now, since I accepted Jesus for the rest of my life, I’m going to try to read my Bible more and talk to God every day. I had many ups and downs in my life. I felt I needed God when I started working here in Singapore. And I felt the presence of Him. I may not see Him but throughout my journey, while I am away from my family I know He is always there guiding me. When I’m feeling down I prayed to God to give me more strength and patience. I may lose my way before I learned a lot of lessons, that God’s way is better, that God always there. Amen.” We are praying together with Marianne for God to be gracious to save her husband and children.

Thank God for the support of Lily, Jimmy and Alice Chur who attend our weekly Mandarin Outreach Service. They are the relatives of Mrs. Chan. We thank the Lord also for the support of brother Moh Siew Choy who has committed himself to serve in the Mandarin Outreach Service. We have distributed since last year about 1000 invitation slips together with tracts to our Mandarin Outreach. It is our prayer that the Lord will strengthen our hands in this new year of service for His glory. Our messages for last year were based on the Book of Proverbs. This year we began the study of 1 and 2 Peter. Thank God for enabling us to worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Amen.
