2 Corinthians 5:15; Live Not Unto Ourselves

2 Corinthians 5:15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

The Apostle Paul exhorts us to live not for ourselves. Be not self-centred, selfish, motivated for self-interest. But live for Jesus, the One who bought us with His life. Jesus’ life was lived in obedience to the will of His Father. He was obedient even unto death, the death on the cross. His obedience purchased our redemption. Because of our Lord’s willing sacrifice, we are given spiritual life. We shall escape the wrath of hell-fire.

Jesus instructed us in Matthew 16:24-27 … If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

Truly, the world can be an attraction for the Christian rendering him ineffective in his spiritual life – know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. (James 4:4)

May the Lord grant His children a willingness to follow Jesus by obeying His commandments – John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. Amen.
