Revelation 1:5; The Faithful Witness
Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
The message that the Apostle John sends to the churches is from God the Father, God the Holy Spirit, and God the Son, Jesus Christ. The Son is called the faithful witness. A witness is one who witness to ascertainable facts. Jesus Christ is the final revelation of God to mankind. Who is Jesus Christ? Jesus Christ is God.
He is the King that will sit on the throne of David forever.
Psalm 89:36-37 His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
2 Samuel 7:8-13 Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel: And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth. Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime, And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house. And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
His Deity is well attested by the writer of Hebrews, who gave a most complete description of Jesus Christ’s Person and work when he said in Hebrews 1:1-4 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
Jesus Christ is a superior witness than the prophets for He is:
(1) Heir of all things
(2) Made the worlds
(3) Exact representation of the Father
(4) Is the brightness of His glory
(5) Bearing all things by the Word of His power
(6) Purged our sins
(7) Sat down on the right hand of the Father.
(8) Being better than angels
Jesus is the Creator, Sustainer of the universe and most of all Saviour. He is a most qualified Witness who holds our future. We need to believe that Jesus is the truth. We need to say, “I believe.” May we be attentive to His revelation concerning the future for our eternal well-being and others whom we are called to witness to. Amen.
