Revelation 2:7; What the Spirit Saith Unto the Churches
Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
The churches of God are urged to overcome with a promise of reward for the overcomer. The verb “to overcome” is the Greek word by which we derive the name “nike”. It means “to be victorious, win, prevail”.
The Lord Himself has great interest in the welfare of His people, therefore, a word of warning has been sent together with words of encouragement and commendation. A diagnosis of the church’s condition that is accurate with prescribed treatment for the ailment.
When there is an ailment, there is a need for the patient to take the prescribed medication for the treatment. If he resists treatment, make light of it, the condition can cause harm to him. As such, our Lord has taken the trouble to bring these good words to John so that this message can be sent out.
These words are likened to our Lord’s words to Ezekiel for His people in Ezekiel 33:1-7 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take anyperson from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand. So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.
May the Lord bless His good words to the hearts of His people. Amen.
