Revelation 2:17; Hidden Manna
Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
The children of Israel were eating the manna from heaven in the wilderness when they encountered Balaam. Manna is heavenly food. Manna was placed in the ark of the covenant to remind Israel of God’s faithfulness in caring for them whilst they were in the wilderness. The Lord is faithful to His care for His children.
The admonition is to not eat the things sacrificed to idols but to partake of the food God gives to us – namely the spiritual bread from heaven, Jesus Christ. He can sustain you forever.
The people of God are to feed upon His Word and live!
To the overcomer is given hidden manna. Why “hidden”? It comes directly from God out of all expectations, truly nourishing though mysterious the source of it, falling directly from heaven!
Jesus entered human history in the fullness of time. Many in Israel could not recognize their Lord – John 1:4-5 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:9-12 Thatwas the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, evento them that believe on his name:
Come And Dine
Come and dine, the Master calleth, come and dine
You may feast at Jesus’ table all the time
He who fed the multitude, turned the water into wine,
To the hungry now He calleth “Come and dine”.
How has your daily devotion been? Was it a relish or a lifeless routine? May the Lord feed us daily with heavenly food that comes from His blessed Holy Spirit as we meditate upon His Word with prayer. Amen.
