Lord’s Day, Vol. 8 No. 4
Thanksgiving for 6thAnniversary
It is indeed a milestone for a new church to cross its 6-year mark, and by God’s grace, to launch into its 7thyear.
Loved ones and friends were gathered together to rejoice in the Lord as Blessed Hope Bible Presbyterian Church commemorated its 6thanniversary last Lord’s day.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, andinto His courts with praise: to be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the LORD isgood; His mercy iseverlasting; and His truth endurethto all generations (Psalm 100:4-5).
The theme for the thanksgiving service was “Faithful is He that calleth” (1 Thessalonians 5:24a).
We meditated upon the words of the Apostle Paul in 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
The two thoughts from the message were, God’s Prevailing Peace (v23a) and God’s Preserving Power (vv23b).
After the service, 2 videos were presented: BHBPC 2019 Church Camp and BHBPC 2019 Family Day as we recounted 2 major events that the Lord has blessed BHBPC to organize in 2019.
The choir sang in thanksgiving to the Lord the hymn “The Church’s One Foundation”.
May the Lord strengthen us to be His witnesses, going forth to proclaim His Word for His honour and glory, to the saving of souls and the establishing of the saints in the most holy faith. Amen.
Our Bible Reading
There is a group of brethren who have begun, like the rest of us, reading through the Bible in one year.
To help speed us along this blessed endeavour in this new year, let us meditate upon the encouraging words of the psalmist in Psalm 19:7-11:
“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORDareright, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.”
God’s Word has the power to impart spiritual life. The word “convert” means “to bring back”. To bring an estranged soul back to God. To partake of the richness and fatness of life with God – Psalm 63:5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.
God’s Word has the power of imparting wisdom for life. The word “sure” means “ to be confirmed” from the verb “to nourish”. The “simple” is open-minded, open to instruction of wisdom or folly. God’s Word helps distinguish wisdom and folly, helping the soul to choose wisdom – Proverbs 1:22-23 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? … Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
God’s Word has the power to rejoice the heart – Psalm 119:54 Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage. The word “right” means “straight, pleasing” to God” – Exodus 15:26And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. The children of Israel were delivered from the bondage of idolatry in Egypt, protected and nourished in the wilderness, en-route to the Promised Land.
