Revelation 5:1; A Book Sealed with Seven Seals
Revelation 5:1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
In Revelation 4, we were transported into the very gates of heaven and asked to take a step into the very throne room of God to behold the worship of the raptured church in heaven. The saints with their white garments and golden crowns in filial and grateful worship pictures where all born-again believers in Christ will be for eternity!
The central focus of heaven was the throne of God with the angelic hosts and saints in adoration of God as He rules the universe from His throne. He has the right to rule, all authority and power belong to Him. This is like the central command of the universe. All things emanate from here, including the mercy and goodness of God that His saints have experienced.
At the close of chapter 4, we saw the saints praising God (Revelation 4:10). The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship Him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
The focus in chapter 5 now zooms in on a scroll that was one the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. There was writing on it both in front and at the back and it is sealed with 7 seals. The events here anticipate God’s judgment to be poured upon the anti-God, atheists and agnostics, every unbelieving, rebellious and sinful heart left on earth. It is a precursor of events that will take place chronologically from chapter 6-19.
A solemn passage for our humble contemplation and humiliation thinking of a coming separation between the redeemed and the rebellious. Amen.
