Revelation 7:9-10; A Great Multitude Before the Throne

Revelation 7:9-10 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; 10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

In verse 16, it is recorded the plight of the Tribulation saints on earth – They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.

It appears they were living in those days where food and water are scarce. They have also to endure the darkness with dimness of light and the cold. There will be great physical suffering during the time of the Great Tribulation.

But the gospel will still be available and so that there was a great multitude that will be saved from all nations, kindreds, and people and tongue.

It is interesting to observe the saints clothed in white robes and with palm leaves in their hands. It is observed that branches of the palm-tree were carried by the victors in the athletic contests of Greece and Rome, and in triumphal processions. The palm-tree–straight, elevated, majestic–was an appropriate emblem of triumph. [Barnes]

Echoing the words of the psalmist in Psalm 37:39-40 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

God’s people take heart in every age to trust His care for them as we witnessed the victory of persecuted in Christ – 2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Did these Tribulation saints experience God’s care in their hour of need? I believe they did. As God’s said in His Word recorded in Psalm 37:18-19 The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

Amen.
