Revelation 8:2; Seven Trumpets
Revelation 8:2 And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.
Feinberg observed well, “With the seal judgments the mass of humanity on earth view them as providential acts only, such as have occurred in history before, although not with such severity. With the blasts of the trumpets, the judgments take on a severer and more judicial aspect. In the bowl judgments the concentrated and unmixed wrath of God is poured out. The trumpet judgments are treated from Rev. 8:2 through Rev. 11:18.”
We notice the sequence of events leading to God’s wrath – persecution of the saints, the proclamation of the gospel, and the repeated persecution of the saints and God’s intervention to vindicate His own who proclaimed His glory!
Feinberg further observed, “The Scripture reveals that trumpets have in the past, and will in the future, accompany significant events. There was a trumpet at the giving of the law at Sinai (Ex. 19:19). There were trumpets appointed in Israel for both worship and warning (Num 10:1-10).”
Numbers 10:8-9 And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance for ever throughout your generations. 9 And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.
He analyzed well, “In Israel’s conquest of Jericho, the walls fell flat at the blast of the trumpet (Joshua 6:13-20); the Midianites were routed under Gideon when the trumpets were blown (Judges 7:16-22); and the rapture of the church will occur at the blowing of the trumpet of God (1 Thessalonians 4:16 and 1 Corinthians 15:52). In the very nature of the case, a trumpet is blown when something of great significance transpires, which must have widespread attention. Messiah’s reign will be prepared by trumpet judgments on the ungodly.”
Come, Lord Jesus, Amen.
