Revelation 8:6, Seven Angels with Seven Trumpets
Revelation 8:6 And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
Lockyer observed interestingly concerning appearance angels in the divine narrative of the end times, “The fact that the word angel occurs more than seventy times in Revelation proves how prominent angelic ministry is in the unfolding of God’s final purposes for the world. His angels are the media of His manifold operations. In this church age, we are not dependent on angels, since the Holy Spirit is the Administrator of the affairs of the church and acts as the Executor of the Godhead, the true Vicar of Christ. After the rapture of the church, angels are again conspicuous in the execution of divine edicts. The more we read Revelation, the more we are impressed and awed at the obedience, dignity, and authority of these angelic beings, who are mentioned more often in Revelation than in any other book of the Bible… In Revelation, particularly in that majority of the book dealing with the preparation for and execution of Christ’s judicial authority, almost every phrase has its angel or angels… There are two distinct groups of seven angels. There are the seven angels associated with the trumpet judgments (Revelation 8-14) and the seven angels related to divine wrath, or the last plagues (Revelation 15:1; 16:1). Two other numbered groups of angels include “four angels” (Revelation 7:1) and “twelve angels” (Revelation 12:1).”
Joseph A. Seiss summarized well, “We have reached a point in the history of the Apocalypse, at which everything stands in solemn readiness for those final blasts of judgment which brings the great consumption. The last seal is broken. Heaven is in suspense to see the result. The prayers of all the saints come up with acceptance before God, who has promised to avenge them. The coals and ashes of holy indignation have dropped from the golden censer to lodge upon the doomed world. In short, the time has come for the action of the great day to be hurried to its completion. May the Lord’s Almighty give us grace to contemplate the awful scene foreshown, as becomes both the subject and ourselves”.
The last words of the Apostle Peter ring aloud today like the siren of the emergency ambulance holding the spiritually sick and dying and encouragement to the saints to watch and pray – 2 Peter 3:1-14 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then thatall these things shall be dissolved, what manner of person sought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
Amen.
