Revelation 13:4; They Worshipped the Beast
Revelation 13:4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
Feinberg observed well, “Realizing that the political leader is exercising power delegated from Satan, the world turns to worship the source of that authority. In doing do they ascribe to the beast omnipotence and invincibility. The indolent questions are to be answered in Revelation 19:11-16.”
Revelation 19:11-16 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
Lockyer said insightfully, “Contrasted with Who is like unto Thee, O Lord?” we have “Who is like the beast?” Michael and his angels make war with the devil and his angels and overcame then, but here a deluded people throw down the gauntlet: “Who can make war against him [the beast]?” This beast with his deadly wound healed is surely immune to further destruction! although he will reign over only one of the ten kingdoms through the last three and one-half-years.”
He further added, “This beast, this “king [who] will do as he pleases” (Daniel 11:36), will be cruelly anti-Semitic and will act in the superhuman power of the dragon. He will manifest a warlike prowess that is devoid of pity. The presence of such a terrible dictator, with the destiny of millions in his hands, will be the sign of hastening judgment for all who bear his mark.”
