Revelation 18:1-2; The Earth was Lightened with His Glory

Revelation 18:1-2  And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. 

When God sent two angels into Sodom and Gomorrah, it was for the purpose of rescuing the righteous in them and to show proof by their physical presence to testify of the evil that was going on for just too long before destroying the cities.

Genesis 19:1-5  And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat. But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. 

The two angels advised Lot and his family to quickly leave the city – Genesis 19:13  For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it. 

The task of the angel was to mete out God’s justice and restore righteousness upon the earth. During the Great Tribulation, God will send an angel to destroy the city of Babylon for the evil that was going on there.

The earth was lightened with the glory of God’s righteousness and holiness and purity when the angel descended from heaven to restore the earth by destroying the Antichrist’s stronghold in Babylon.

The angel will strike right at the headquarters of the Antichrist so that the global outreach from the city will be forever crippled.

The prophet Isaiah described well this scene when he said in Isaiah 60:1-3  Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. 

The Antichrist will rage and war against Israel will consummate in the battle of Armageddon where Christ will return to total defeat the global coalition of forces against God and His people.

2 Thessalonians 2:8  And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 

All the tribulation saints will be warned to flee the city before its destruction just as the Lot was rescued from the burning Sodom. God is gracious.

Revelation 18:4  And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. 

May the people of God be not partakers with the sins of Babylon. Amen.
