Revelation 19:1-2; True and Righteous Are His Judgments

Revelation 19:1-2 (KJV)  And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.

God vindicated His servants who suffered martyrdom. They did not partake of the sins of the great whore. God’s servants kept themselves pure and would rather be thrown to the lions’ den with the prospect of being cruelly killed. They trusted God and did the will of God. They were faithful unto death.

Here is the first reason for ascribing salvation, glory, and power to God. John writes that His judgments are true and just.

Heaven also rejoices because God’s judgments are true and righteous (cf. 16:7), as evidenced by the destruction of wicked, deserving Babylon.

Revelation 16:7 (KJV)  And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

That joy over the imminent triumph of God’s justice is something that all who pray and work for righteousness can relate to. Throughout history God’s people have been disturbed by the inequity, injustice, and unrighteousness in the world, and have longed for God’s justice to come.

Thy kingdom come is the prayer for the oppressed of God’s people as they entrusted their care to God. While God’s people often wait to see the salvation of the Lord, this is the confidence that we have, vindication will certainly come. God’s people may rest in His justice and find comfort and peace in the midst of incarceration.

John 16:33 (KJV)  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Let God’s people look to Him for peace and find grace to overcome the world. Amen.
