Revelation 19:9; The Marriage Supper of the Lamb (4)

Revelation 19:9  And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

“The marriage supper of the Lamb” is a precious revelation to the hearts of all of God’s people. What a moment this will be when the “church of the firstborn” (Hebrew 12:23) is forever united to Him who bought her with His own blood! This is to be the marriage supper of the Lamb. Our presence there will be due to all of His grace, and only those washed through the blood of the Lamb will be present at this nuptial celebration.

This supper will be one of delight, but “the supper of the great God” (v7) will be one of great destruction. At this supper, the fowls of the air will eat the flesh of kings, while, the marriage supper of the Lamb, the saints will feast with Christ as the King of Kings. Our beautiful wedding garments represent the righteousness that the Lamb imputed and imparts to all His saints.

In the culture of John’s day, the wedding day began around the evening on the wedding day and lasted for many days. In Revelation, the wedding feast begins the earthly kingdom of God. The bride is the church, and the invited guests are others committed to Jesus (Johnson)

As to the “return of the Redeemer in glory,” there is no doubt as to the identity of the Eider of the white horse. His names correspond to all that He is in Himself, as well as to the nature of His judgments. He is called …

“Faithful and True” (v11)

Revelation 19:11  And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

“The Word of God” (v13)

Revelation 19:13  And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

“KING OF KINGS” (v16)

“LORD of LORDS” (v16)

Revelation 19:16  And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

The diadems encircling His brow are royal one and are therefore different in character from the mock one on the head of the beast. As the striking phrase “a vesture dipped in blood (v13), we understand this refer to the blood of Christ’s enemies, who are not sprinkled with the blood of Calvary. One of Christ’s names, “The Word of God,” offers one of the strongest arguments for His incarnation.

John 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

John 1:1-3  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Jesus Himself is the final and perfect revelation of God.

Hebrews 1:1-4  God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
