Revelation 20:14; Death and Hell
Revelation 20:14 (KJV) And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
“Death and hell” – Revelation 20:13 (KJV) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
The judgment marks the end of death, so death along will hell meets their doom in the lake of fire – And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
The perspective now changes as “death and hell” come to be personified as inseparable companions, two voracious and insatiable monsters who have swallowed all past generations and now meet the same fate as the prey they have just disgorged (Swete).
The last enemy meets his end (1 Corinthians 15:26; 54-55; cf. Isaiah 25:8; Hosea 13:14).
1 Corinthians 15:26 (KJV) The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
1 Corinthians 15:54-55 (KJV) So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where isthy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
Isaiah 25:8 (KJV) He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.
Hosea 13:14 (KJV) I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.
He no longer threatens the human race. Death will not be around to disturb the tranquility of the new heaven and the new earth (Revelation 21:4), because it joins its victims in the lake of fire.
