Revelation 21:8; And All Liars
Revelation 21:8 (KJV) But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
The final group in this catalogue of sinners “all liars” comes into view in Revelation 22:15 in an individualised form – whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
Revelation 22:15 (KJV) For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
A constant stigma rest on the sin of lying (Revelation 2:2; 3:9).
Revelation 2:2 (KJV) I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
Revelation 3:9 (KJV) Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
These are primarily those who lie in their denial of Christ, but include untruthful Christians who cheat (Acts 5:3) and lie to one another (Colossians 3:9; contra Revelation 14:5) (Moffatt).
Acts 5:3 (KJV) But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back partof the price of the land?
Colossians 3:9 (KJV) Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
Revelation 14:5 (KJV) And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.
Liars are foremost among those doomed to an eternity outside the new creation as evidenced by their appearance on each of the three list of the ones excluded therefrom (cf. Revelation 21:27; 22:25). (Lee, Smith)
Revelation 21:27 (KJV) And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Revelation 22:15 (KJV) For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
