Revelation 22:4; And They Shall See His Face

Revelation 22:4 (KJV)  And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

Closeness to God and the Lamb will highlight the privileges of the slaves – And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

After Adam and Eve sinned, they hid themselves from God (Genesis 3:8). God did not allow Moses to view His face (Exodus 33:20, 23), but Jesus promised the privilege to the pure in heart (Matthew 5:8).

Genesis 3:8 (KJV) And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

Exodus 33:20 (KJV) And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

Exodus 33:23 (KJV) And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

Matthew 5:8 (KJV) Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

It is possible only for those who are righteous and holy to view God directly (Psalm 11:7; 17:15; Hebrews 12:14; cf. 1 Corinthians 13:12).

Psalm 11:7 (KJV) For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.

Psalm 17:15 (KJV) As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

Hebrews 12:14 (KJV) Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

1 Corinthians 13:12 (KJV)  For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Seeing God’s face is anthropomorphic language, but it is the best way available for expressing the essential goal of human existence.
