Psalm 33:18-20 Our Soul Waitheth For the LORD

Psalm 33:18-20 (KJV)  Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.

In a famine, there is little or no visible supply of provision. A most trying time for the soul. The anguish is both mental and physical.

The psalmist acknowledges that his sustenance is from the LORD. He understood that if God withholds there will be starvation and finally death. He pleads with the LORD. He understood that God is the Source of true help and his dependable protector.

To wait upon God is to trust Him. To trust Him is to seek Him and be willing to surrender to God and submit to Him, to order the outcome of his impasse, whatever it may be.

The psalmist understood that God cares and is very much concerned with the plight of His people. As such, his people confess their sins and make right with Him and bring their needs before Him in humble prayer.

Let us hope in His mercy. Amen.
